Hair Restoration using PRP

TruPRPPRP (Platelet Rich Plasma) is specially prepared concentrate of your own blood that has high levels of platelets. Platelets are cells that when activated release key growth factors involved in healing and tissue regeneration. In the fields of stem cell research and regenerative medicine, PRP has emerged as an exciting treatment for a variety of aesthetic applications, such as the “vampire facial”, non-surgical hair restoration, and facial rejuvenation.

It is important to note that not all PRP is the same. At the Wise Center for Plastic Surgery, we are the only office-based center in New Jersey that utilizes the Magellan TruPRP System, which produces the highest concentration and purest, hospital-grade PRP.

acellThere are new and exciting uses for PRP in the field of hair restoration. ACell, also referred to as MatriStem, is a product known to promote wound healing and tissue regeneration. Combined injection therapy of ACell and PRP has been demonstrated to stimulate hair follicles that are miniaturizing or those that are in the resting phase. This can be used as a stand-alone treatment, particularly in men and women with diffusely thinning hair. Combined injection therapy with PRP and ACell is almost universally used at the Wise Center with hair grafting procedures (FUE, NeoGraft). When used in combination with hair transplantation, PRP and ACell preserve existing hair and augment results of traditional grafting techniques. In short, it is used as a “fertilizer” for the hair.

The ability of PRP to induce tissue regeneration and form new collagen has led to its use in facial rejuvenation. The “Vampire Facial” involves combining PRP and micro-needling of the skin to fill in lines and wrinkles and revitalize the skin’s elasticity in the dermal layer. The use of PRP in combination with facelifting, fat transfer, or laser-skin resurfacing has been shown to amplify results and decrease downtime.

Because it is derived from your own blood, PRP appeals to patients who do not desire foreign substances injected into their face, as in the case of commercially-prepared dermal fillers. Its development and large number of potential applications has been exciting in the fields of hair restoration, wound healing, and facial rejuvenation. During a consultation, Dr. Wise will be able determine if you are a candidate for any of the above procedures.

The Importance of Eyebrows

It is thought that the eyebrows, similar to the eyelashes, function to protect the eyes from getting debris in them. This may seem of minimal importance, but the eyebrows actually play a much larger role in human interaction.

Communication

In addition to their practical function, the eyebrows are essential to communicating our emotions to others. How an individual is feeling is highly reflected through his or her eyebrows based on their angle, height, and shape. For example, eyebrows that are angled downward in the middle generally show that a person is angry or upset, while raised eyebrows often indicate surprise. In addition, wavy or scrunched eyebrows usually signify confusion or doubt. The non-verbal communication of these feelings through our eyebrows is critical for human interaction because a single look can express more than words alone.

Perception and Reaction

People perceive the mental outlook of others based on their eyebrows without even realizing it, and this can affect how we interact (or don’t) with others. Since the eyebrows can convey a person’s mood, a person may be judged as easygoing and approachable or angry and rude just from their eyebrows. People with eyebrows that permanently hang low over their eyes generally project an angry or sad appearance, and people with eyebrows that are rounded or uplifted are usually perceived as happier and welcoming. Based on these perceptions, we may or may not approach and interact with a person.

Beauty

The characteristics of the eyebrows can also affect how beautiful we think a person is. The eyebrows give shape and definition to the eyes, which has a direct effect on the appearance of the rest of the face. Many women and men spend a lot of time and money shaping, dyeing, and filling in their eyebrows to make them frame their face in the most attractive way and balance their facial features. Everything from the length and shape to the thickness and color of the eyebrows affect a person’s overall facial appearance. Eyebrow Enhancement

Unfortunately, as we age the eyebrows tend to become thinner, and some people suffer from conditions that cause their eyebrows to disappear altogether. People with sparse or no eyebrows don’t reap the full benefits of these important tools for human interaction. While some people may turn to tattooing to improve the appearance of their eyebrows, this solution fades over time and is not very aesthetically pleasing to everyone. Eyebrow enhancement with NeoGraft® provides a permanent and natural solution to hair loss in the eyebrow area.
