What it is:
Rhinoplasty or ‘nose job’, it’s cruder name, is a precise and intricate procedure, requiring a surgeon’s passion and focus. Dr. Wise’s dedication and talent become obvious when viewing his many patients’ exceptionally natural results. Dr. Wise is one of only a handful of international surgeons that is a double board-certified Facial Plastic Surgeon. His background in Head and Neck Surgery and specialized training in Facial Plastic Surgery give him a unique knowledge of the face and its underlying structures. Dr. Wise’s patients value this type of specialized knowledge and experience when considering rhinoplasty or nose job.
The best rhinoplasty or nose job candidates are in good health, over the age of 15, non-smokers, and are able to avoid blood thinning medications for two weeks prior to surgery. They have complaints with nasal appearance and have realistic expectations of the result. They are able to understand the basic aspects of rhinoplasty to allow them to easily participate in their own care.
Where it helps:
Rhinoplasty or nose job can be implemented as a means to reshape the nose, from the bridge to the tip. The new nose is defined based on the patient’s unique facial structure and is created as a complement to the individual’s natural beauty.
What it entails:
Dr. Wise has extensive experience in both “closed” and “open” rhinoplasty techniques. Improvement in nasal breathing, in addition to a nose with excellent structural support, is of the utmost importance. Your new nose should appear natural, well shaped, and in proportion to your face. While the exact nature of the rhinoplasty surgery will vary, in general, Dr. Wise may reposition cartilage and/or replace missing structures in order to achieve the new shape.
What to expect:
At your initial consultation with Dr. Wise, you will have the opportunity to view before and after photos of Dr. Wise’s rhinoplasty patients. It is important to remember that you are the only person with your exact nose. Every patient is different, so we encourage patients not to base a decision on before and after photos. It is important to focus more on what Dr. Wise will do for you as an individual.
The Wise Center of Plastic Surgery is one of the first practices in New Jersey to offer VECTRA 3-D, a 3-dimensional imaging system to simulate the proposed before and after results of your rhinoplasty. Using this advanced 3-dimensional imaging technology, Dr. Wise can help you get an idea of a possible outcome once he performs aesthetic enhancement procedures.
While these projections of your nose are helpful, it is important to keep in mind that these images are not guarantees of an actual result. Dr. Wise finds these images are beneficial to communicate with you about your aesthetic goals and to carefully plan your procedure. For almost all cases, a deep sedation will be used, which means you will be completely asleep and pain-free during the entire procedure. Patients having shorter procedures may be eligible for lighter sedation. Regardless of your sedation, every patient is completely comfortable during the procedure. Speak with Dr. Wise about what form of anesthesia will be right for you.
Dr. Wise’s surgical technique allows for minimal recovery time and rapid healing. Dr. Wise does not use packing in the nose, thereby promoting a more comfortable recovery period for his patients. We have found that most patients are very worried about pain, and pleasantly surprised to find that discomfort is mild.
Dr. Wise recommends that his rhinoplasty patients wait at least one week after the procedure to return to work or school. It is at this time that Dr. Wise will remove the splint on your nose, leaving you free of this obvious stigma of surgery. You may still be mildly bruised under your eyes, so if this will interfere with your work or school, it may be beneficial to take a few additional days off. In addition, Dr. Wise recommends refraining from rigorous activities and sun exposure for several weeks after your procedure.
