The Fine Line Between BOTOX® and Injectable Fillers
Dr. Wise offers all injectables and fillers at his New Jersey practice, including BOTOX® Cosmetic, Dysport®, XEOMIN®, Restylane®, JUVÉDERM®, JUVÉDERM VOLUMA® XC, BELOTERO BALANCE®, and Sculptra® Aesthetic. These injectables and fillers diminish fines lines and wrinkles and give patients an overall younger-looking appearance. Although the results are similar, there is a fine line between these injectables that makes one or the other better for certain areas of the face. This mainly has to do with the way these products work.
BOTOX®, Dysport®, and XEOMIN®
BOTOX®, Dysport®, and XEOMIN® are neurotoxins that smooth the skin by temporarily limiting the movement of the facial muscles that cause wrinkles. While the idea of “freezing” your face in this way may sound like something to be concerned about, Dr. Wise and his staff are highly skilled at the art of injecting these products. You will be able to smile, frown, and express your emotions naturally. When your face is relaxed, there should be no signs of fine lines and wrinkles. Although BOTOX®, Dysport®, and XEOMIN® work well on moderate to severe “frown lines” between the eyebrows, BOTOX® is also FDA approved to effectively reduce the appearance of “crow’s feet.”
Injectable Fillers
Injectable fillers work in an entirely different way than neurotoxins. Instead of limiting muscle movement, they literally fill and plump certain areas of the face to provide youthful volume and reduce the appearance of fine lines, wrinkles, and folds. Most fillers work very well on “smile lines” or “parentheses” around the mouth. JUVÉDERM VOLUMA® XC in particular is a smoother gel that works very well to fill facial hollows and to smooth wrinkles in the cheeks. It is often used for lip augmentation as well, with results lasting up to two years.
Both neurotoxins and injectable fillers are an excellent choice for patients who are not yet ready for a surgical procedure. They can also be used in addition to a face lifting procedure or with other procedures, such as a blepharoplasty or forehead lift.
