Rhinoplasty surgery is any procedure that changes the appearance or the shape of the nose. Rhinoplasties can be functional in nature to improve breathing or cosmetic in nature to improve the form or the appearance of the nose. Often in my hands, we incorporate both issues into a rhinoplasty procedure.
Optimal candidates for rhinoplasty procedures are any individual who has concerns about the appearance or the function of their nose and wants some treatment for it.
One of my most gratifying appointments at our facility is that one-week appointment after a rhinoplasty. In a week's time, we typically take the cast off, and patients get a reveal of their new nose. It's enjoyable to see the reactions on their faces because it's usually super exciting. Rhinoplasties are one of those procedures that look better over time because as time goes on, swelling improves and the nose becomes more and more defined.
Frequently, there are patients who for whatever reason aren't good candidates for surgical procedures so they'll opt for a non-surgical or liquid rhinoplasty. Non-surgical rhinoplasty is a rhinoplasty procedure that's performed with a combination of dermal fillers and a neuromodulator such as Botox.
One thing that I take tremendous pride in when it comes to rhinoplasty is an individualized approach. Something that we do during our pre-operative consultation is go over special 3D Vectra Imaging. We discuss exactly what the goals are. We image the nose in three dimensions, bearing in mind things that I can actually accomplish and things that the patient desires, and we come up with a really great plan together.
I think it's very important for patients coming to our practice to know my particular aesthetic, and that aesthetic is one of natural-looking noses. We don't want noses that look overly operated on. I think it's also very, very important to listen to the patient. When you come to our facility we're going to hear what you have to say. We're going to take your input very seriously, and we're going to create an aesthetic plan and a nose that fits your face and it's what you want.
